Estée Lauder Companies Financial Overview 2022–2026

Updated Nov 4, 2026

Estée Lauder swung from an $785 million operating loss in FY2025 to $780 milliona of operating income in FY2026, a $1.57 billion reversal in one year. That matters because the turnaround is real but still thin: the 5.2% operating margin is less than a third of the 17.9% posted in FY2022. The core thesis is a profit recovery built on cost cuts and gross margin repair, with sales growth only just resuming.

Revenue tells the long arc. Net sales fell from $17.74 billionb in FY2022 to a low of $14.33 billion in FY2025, then rebounded 5% to $15.05 billion in FY2026. Diluted EPS went from $6.55 to $0.50 over the same span, with a $(3.15) loss in between. Gross margin dropped to 71.3% in FY2023, then climbed to 75.5% in FY2026. Mainland China sales rose 12% in FY2026. Restructuring is the engine: the program now totals $1.748 billion in charges and targets about $1.2 billion in annual gross benefits.

The balance sheet is the constraint. Total debt stood at 66% of total capitalization in FY2026, up from 49% in FY2022, and the quarterly dividend was cut from $0.66 to $0.35c. Operating cash flow of $1.77 billion in FY2026 is still well below the $3.04 billion of FY2022. The market priced in a rebound: the stock closed at $78.95 at the end of FY2026, or 157.9x trailing earnings, versus $80.80 at the close of FY2025, when earnings were negative. Investors are paying for recovery that the margins have yet to deliver.

Recent Developments (Q4 2026 and Q1 2027)

Operating margin more than doubled in Q1 2027: 11.0% versus 4.9% a year earlier, on 7% sales growth to $3.715 billiond. Fragrance sales rose 19%, and gross margin reached 75.7%. Management raised its fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS outlook to $3.20–$3.45. In Q4 2026, the Puig merger talks ended on May 21, and restructuring approvals closed at $1.748 billion. After quarter end, the company bought the remaining 51% of Forest Essentials for $160 million.

Bull case: adjusted operating margin of 12.1% in Q1 2027 is already near the raised full-year range of 12.9%–13.7%. Bear case: operating cash flow was still an outflow of $166 millione, and tariffs and 116 pending talc cases weigh on results. The stock closed at $104.77, or 209.5x trailing earnings, as of the Q1 2027 report date of 2026-11-01, not today.

What to watch: Forest Essentials remeasurement gain of about $94 million in Q2 2027; tariff impact on fiscal 2027 margins
