Williams-Sonoma Financial Overview 2022–2026

Updated Nov 4, 2026

Williams-Sonoma's sales are 5.3% smaller than they were in FY2022, yet net earnings barely moved: $1.09 billiona in FY2026 versus $1.13 billion. That gap is the story. The company now earns about the same profit on a lower revenue base, which points to a structurally richer margin profile rather than a cyclical blip.

The long-term arc shows how that happened. Revenue went from $8.25 billion in FY2022 to $7.81 billionb in FY2026, with a 10.6% drop in FY2023 the low point for demand. Over the same span, cost of goods sold fell from 56.0% of revenue (a 44.0% gross margin) to a 46.2% gross margin in FY2026. Tariffs trimmed merchandise margins by 40 basis points in the latest year, so that gain is not risk-free. Still, comparable brand revenue turned positive at 3.5%, and diluted EPS hit a record $8.84.

The balance sheet gives management room to act. FY2026 closed with $1.0 billionc in cash, no revolver borrowings, $1.31 billion of operating cash flow and $1.2 billion returned to shareholders. The market has paid for that consistency without stretching: the stock closed FY2025 at $211.37, or 24.0x earnings, and FY2026 at $204.65, or 23.2x, for a $24.3 billion market cap. Earnings held up, but the multiple compressed slightly.

Recent Developments (Q1 and Q2 2027)

Q2 brought a large one-time lift. Revenue reached $1.96 billiond in Q2 2026, up from $1.84 billion, with comps of 6.2% after 4.8% in Q1 2026. GAAP gross margin hit 51.6%, but 610 basis points came from IEEPA tariff refunds net of vendor reimbursements. Non-GAAP gross margin fell 160 basis points to 45.5%, and non-GAAP EPS was $2.10 versus GAAP $2.84. Management raised FY2026 revenue growth guidance to 4.7%–7.2%, excluding refund benefits. Lynn Martin joins the board effective October 19, 2026.

The bull case: underlying comps are accelerating, guidance rose, and $197.8 millione of refund claims were filed in April. The bear case: core margins still absorb tariff costs, and no shares were repurchased in Q2. At 26.6x earnings as of August 27, 2026, the stock is priced above its prior year-end multiple, not today's.

What to watch: Q3 gross margin as $29.3 million of deferred refund income clears inventory; whether buybacks resume
