West Pharmaceutical Services Financial Overview 2021–2025

Updated Nov 4, 2026

West Pharmaceutical Services closed FY2025 at $275.14a a share, or 40.5x earnings, on diluted EPS of $6.79. That EPS sits well below the $8.67 earned in FY2021. The thesis: the market was paying a $19.8 billion market cap for a recovery, not for earnings already delivered, and the evidence of that recovery is in revenue and gross margin rather than profit.

The long arc shows why. Net sales grew from $2,831.6 million in FY2021 to $3.07 billionb in FY2025, but EPS moved the other way. The pandemic-era peak, which included roughly $459 million of COVID-related Proprietary sales in FY2021, gave way to destocking and weaker plant absorption. Gross margin bottomed at 34.5% in FY2024, down from 38.3% a year earlier.

FY2025 was the turn. Sales rose 6.3%, Proprietary Products grew 6.8% to $2.49 billionc, and gross margin recovered to 35.9%. Adjusted operating profit climbed 8.7% to $622.4 million. The drag was SG&A, up 16.3% to $393.6 million on incentive compensation. Cash was healthy: $754.8 million of operating cash flow, $791.3 million of cash against $202.8 million of debt, and buybacks cut to $134.0 million from $560.9 million in FY2024. Growth then accelerated: Q2 2026 sales rose 13.8% to $872.3 million.

Recent Developments (Q2 and Q3 2026)

West Pharmaceutical Services raised guidance twice, and Q3 2026 brought the sale of its SmartDose 3.5mL device business to AbbVie, which closed July 1. Net sales were $874.5 milliond, up 8.7% (11.9% organic). Diluted EPS rose 57.3% to $3.02, aided by a $55.7 million gain. Adjusted EPS was $2.66, up 35.7%. Full-year adjusted EPS guidance now stands at $9.38–$9.48, up from $8.85–$9.05 in July. A May 2026 cyberattack cost West Vantage about $7 million of revenue. Michel Lagarde becomes CEO on August 31, 2026.

Bull: HVP Components grew 19.7% on Biologics and GLP-1 demand, and guidance keeps rising. Bear: the stock traded at 61.4x trailing earnings as of October 28, 2026, not today, and West Vantage sales fell 7.3%. Operating cash flow of $403.4 millione for nine months trailed the prior year's $503.7 million.
