Regions Financial Financial Overview 2021–2025

Updated Nov 4, 2026

Regions earned $2.30a per diluted share in FY2025, still below the $2.49 it posted in FY2021. Yet the stock closed at $27.10 on December 30, 2025, just 11.8x earnings. The thesis: this bank has largely repaired its margin and credit profile, and it is now returning capital faster than it is growing its loan book.

The path was uneven. Net interest income climbed from $3.9 billion in FY2021 to $4.99 billionb in FY2025. Along the way, net interest margin peaked at 3.90% in FY2023, then compressed to 3.54% in FY2024, when EPS bottomed at $1.93. FY2025 reversed that slide. Margin recovered to 3.61%, net income reached $2.16 billion, and non-interest income rose to $2.54 billion. Non-interest expense edged up only modestly to $4.31 billion.

Credit and capital support the rebound. Non-performing loans fell to $698 millionc from $928 million, though net charge-offs rose to 0.53% of average loans from 0.47%. The CET1 ratio stood at 10.89%. Regions repurchased $1.07 billion of common stock, declared $916 million in dividends, and authorized a new $3.0 billion buyback running through 2027. The soft spot is lending: loans slipped $1.1 billion to $95.6 billion. Growth, not capital, is the open question.

Recent Developments (Q1 and Q2 2026)

Loans did the heavy lifting in the first half. Net loans reached $99.2 billiond at Q2 2026, up from $97.9 billion in Q1 2026, led by commercial and industrial growth of $3.1 billion year to date. Diluted EPS rose to $0.64 in Q2 2026 from $0.62 in Q1 2026, and net charge-offs fell to 0.42% from 0.54%. Net interest margin held at 3.66%. Regions sold about $900 million of securities, taking a $41 million loss. The board raised the quarterly dividend to $0.30, and Q3 2026 brought EPS of $0.71. Leadership changes take effect September 1, 2026, when Kate Danella becomes Chief Administrative Officer.

Bull case: loan growth, falling charge-offs and a higher dividend support earnings. Bear case: non-interest expense rose to $1.121 billion in Q2 2026, and deposits slipped to $130.7 billione. At 13.0x earnings as of the August 5, 2026 filing date, the stock is no longer cheap. That multiple is not today's.
