Waste Connections Financial Overview 2021–2025

Updated Nov 4, 2026

Net income jumped 74% to $1.077 billiona in FY2025, but the headline flatters. Impairments fell to $109.7 million from $613.0 million, a drop tied mostly to the Chiquita Canyon landfill charges taken in FY2024. The real story is pricing. Waste Connections is extracting more profit from a business whose growth excluding acquisitions slowed to 1.9%, with 6.4% pricing largely absorbed by weaker volumes. Earnings now depend on price and acquisitions, not tonnage.

The long arc shows it working. Revenue grew from $6.151 billion in FY2021 to $9.467 billionb in FY2025. Adjusted EBITDA margin widened from 31.2% to 33.0%, and adjusted EBITDA reached $3.125 billion. Operating cash flow of $2.414 billion covered $1.179 billion of capital spending and $839.3 million in shareholder returns, split between $333.8 million of dividends and $505.5 million of buybacks. The cost is leverage. Total debt reached $8.889 billion, and the Leverage Ratio rose to 2.75x from 2.67x, near the top of the 2.5x–3.0x target range.

The market paid up for that consistency. At the close of FY2025, the shares traded at $175.36c, or 42.1x earnings, for a market cap of $44.8 billion. That multiple leaves little room for a stall in pricing, and unresolved Chiquita Canyon litigation, with no estimate of loss, sits against it.

Recent Developments (Q2 and Q3 2026)

Earnings accelerated through the middle of 2026. Q3 2026 revenue reached $2.638 billiond, up from $2.458 billion, and net income rose to $359.2 million from $286.3 million. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 34.0% versus 33.8% a year earlier. Impairments fell to $1.9 million from $60.1 million, which lifted operating income to $541.7 million. In Q2 2026, closure liability adjustments of $55.8 million had held operating income to $437.6 million. Management raised full-year outlook twice, to about $10.09 billion of revenue and $3.345 billion of adjusted EBITDA. Buybacks passed $1 billion year to date, and the quarterly dividend rose to $0.385.

Bull case: price-led growth, with core price of 5.5% and volumes improving 70 basis points sequentially, is lifting margins. Bear case: long-term debt rose to $9.427 billione, and about 14,000 Chiquita Canyon plaintiffs have no estimable loss. At 44.3x earnings as of the October 21, 2026 report date, not today, the shares price in continued execution.

What to watch: volume trend against pricing in Q4 2026; Chiquita Canyon litigation and leverage near the top of the target range
